Caerphilly Does It

South Wales Scorpions v Hemel Stags

A spare Sunday and potentially the last opportunity to watch the Scorpions whilst I was in the south.

An HST over to Wales.  Passing Newport and with engineering work on the Usk bridge, trains up the marches were having to go to East Usk to reverse, and then head over the recently singled Maindee curve.

Into Cardiff and then a unit up the Rhymney valley up to the relatively new and required, Energlyn and Churchill Park.

Some prophetic graffiti on the walk to the ground.

South Wales are now on their fourth home ground of their six year existence, at Caerphilly RFC's Virginia Park.

How I wish I still had my season ticket and could make use of the glamour of this entrance.

The ground seems to have had a lick of paint.  This stand has had the few decent seats moved to the centre and terracing added to flanks, ala Billingham Synthonia.

The main stand is actually a tiny structure on the opposite side.  It is home to the timekeepers with the improvised press area ie a dining room tabled with legs extended by nailing a bit of 2 by 4 to them.

The Scorpions had actually managed a couple of wins this season, and were above a pointless Hemel.  However, after a close first half, defensive errors cost the home side as it led to two Hemel trys and they won 14-30.
